ABOUT

This website's task is to commemorate Didier Pironi, French racing driver, Le Mans winner and almost France's first Formula One World Champion.

After a succesful career in lower racing formulas he drove for the F1 teams of Tyrrell, Ligier and Ferrari between 1978 and 1982 until he had an almost fatal accident at Hockenheim in 1982. He later competed in offshore boats where he came to death in 1987.

He was a controversial character with a lot of discussion going on about him even today.  So read on and explore on this fascinating yet still undervalued man.

Help needed: Any info or pictures on Didier’s early races and rallyes as well as about him as a person are very much appreciated.

NEWS

On my recent from a trip to France I managed to take some photos of the trailer of Didier's powerboat Colibri that I have added to the Off-Shore section.
The trailer is currently stored at Lohéac at Automobiles Hommell

I also had the opportunity to talk to a former crew member of the Colibri who gave me valuable information that I will soon use to update the Personality and Off-Shore sections.

The current issue of the German edition of Ferrari World mag contains an article of several pages about Didier. Don't expect any new information.

NOREV have released an 1/18th model of the 1978 Alpine A442b.
